Hello Seattle Burners!
I'm hoping to increase my 'Burning Man social circle' here, (my main reason for joining Tribe in fact).
I'm particularly looking for theme camps, with most particular leaning in my neck oh the woods here -Seattle.
2009 will be my second [consecutive] year at Burning Man... And I'm still not really sure what I'm doing camping wise.
Last year I was part of the Vinland theme camp, and there's a chance I may camp with them again this year... But just not sure.
Anyway, if there are any theme camps out there interested in the potential of new members drop me a line! I'm happy to contribute time and effort to pre-Burn work: art work, art car, shade structure, etc. And I'm looking for ideas on Burning Man uses for a pedi-cab. (It'll be a book mobile some of the time anyway).
So, let me know if you have comments, suggestions, ideas, a theme camp that could use more people, or just want to say hi!

Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Sun, April 26, 2009 - 2:23 PMYour best bet to get involved into a core of seattle burners is to start going to the weekly events. That will get you pretty well plugged into the other things going on, meet a lot of hardcore folks, and otherwise do the stuff that makes it easy to get involved.
The two big weekly events are the Monday Burn Night at spitfire pub, from 7:30 to whenever, and the Tuesday potlucks at Grrratitude house.
Further details about both these events are readily available at www.burningmanseattle.com:
www.burningmanseattle.com/event-listings
Both are quite open, welcoming and accessible to new folks. The event at spitfire is (usually) held way in the back room, although last week there was some presentation going on so we commandeered a bunch of tables.

Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Tue, April 28, 2009 - 1:13 AMThank you for the info!
Of course both those events take place on the two nights a week I work late. Might I ask what sorta range 'whenever' tends to be at the Spitfire? The Burning Man Seattle page lists 8:30 for the end time, But I doubt I'd make it any earlier than that. Are folks still around that late usually?
Thanks again!

Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Thu, April 30, 2009 - 2:56 PMNot sure about the future of burn night at the Spitfire. We were usng their back room, but the last couple weeks it was rented out from under us. Essentially there's not enough of us showing up/buying drinks to make it worthwhile to hold the room for us. I guess that's the reality of owning a business.

Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Sat, May 2, 2009 - 1:09 PMHuh. Bugger.
I can't really think of any place with large empty space to recommend moving to.
Please do post, though, if a new venue pops up. -It sounds like a great way to meet some more Seattle Burners! -
-
Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Sat, May 2, 2009 - 6:43 PMWell, the alternative, of course, is for more people to start showing up for burn night at spitfire, so we become an ustoppable force. Or something.

Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Sat, May 16, 2009 - 8:17 PMSpeaking of more people and unstoppable forces...
Are Spitfires still happening? And do people hang out there as late as 9ish? Finally finished up my classes and I could probably actually swing down to the Spitfire on my way home this Monday. -

Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Sat, May 16, 2009 - 9:19 PMyep, they're still being held. I'm not sure how late peopl are sticking around. It's certainly worth a shot to show up.
And to answer your other question, 9:30 is pleny fine to show up to the potluck. There's still an hour to mingle. And yeah, it's pretty much bring a dish & show up!

Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Mon, April 27, 2009 - 11:05 AMAlso, I suggest attending Critical Massive which is our regional BM prep. You can check out the camps and get to know everyone in full playa mode.
Here you go: ignitionnw.org/criticalmassive/
I'll be holding a Slap Shot for you at D-Lay Station....... -

Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Tue, April 28, 2009 - 1:26 AMNeat! Thanks for the info. I can't make the whole thing, but I should be able to do Saturday/Sunday. I'll just need to track down a ride...
Hey, umm... What's a Slap Shot? [Total newbie!] -

Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Tue, May 5, 2009 - 11:54 AMHi Erin -
Yes, absolutely, positively, definitely go to Critical Massive. That'll be the best way to meet everyone, and it's going to be a sort of "BM-prep" this year since a lot of people are bringing their art projects to work on and perfect before the ride out to the desert in August. It'll be a lot of fun this year.
It's too bad you can't make it to the potlucks, as they are the biggest burner-meetups we have around here. They usually go late, till around 10:30, if it makes any difference.
There's also a public Critical Massive meeting on Monday, May 25th at Spitfire-there should be a ton of people attending that night, and it will probably go pretty late.

Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Sat, May 16, 2009 - 8:22 PMHumm... I could probably get to the potluck by between 9-9:30. A tad late indeed, but still before 10:30.
You just bring a dish and show up? -
-
Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Sun, May 17, 2009 - 2:11 PMyep, exactly. Everyone's welcome. -

Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Sun, May 17, 2009 - 2:19 PMAnd we don't even spank the virgins.
come to think about it, that's something we should rectify... -
-
Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Tue, May 19, 2009 - 10:12 AMwhile greeting at CM we spanked those that didn't carpool or anyone else that wanted that kind of love....

Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Tue, May 19, 2009 - 11:23 PMDamn it!
I really tried to come tonight. I had a berry pie and everything... I apparently clicked the wrong option on Metro Trip Planner and ended up on 17th st S.
Was this the last one? I don't see any further ones listed on the BurningManSeattle.com page.
Now.... I think I'll go eat a pie... -
-
Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Wed, May 20, 2009 - 8:16 PMPie!
Bummer that you missed it.
And yeah, there will be more, many more potlucks. The event thingee on BMS.com doesn't seem to allow for recurring events, so Eva just posts them every week.
Where are you coming from? It's not unreasonable that you can find someone to carpool with. -
-
This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Mon, May 25, 2009 - 1:42 AMI get off work at 8, top of Queen Anne Hill. The late time probably makes car pooling unlikley.
I'll be out of town this week, but shall endeavor to try once more next! Although, getting back into Seattle Monday night may well mean no home cookin'... -

Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Wed, June 24, 2009 - 12:08 AMi would also like to come to a pot luck but transportation is quite an issue for me...
i have no car and would have to take a bus no problem getting there but there
would be no way for me to get home you think they'd be down to let a noob crash a couch for a night?

Re: Seattle Theme Camps

Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Fri, August 14, 2009 - 1:39 PMI am looking for a camp that might have food and exchange work and contributions for food at burningman. Ok I am not Mrs. Cleaver let alone a camper but I am fun, loving and can clean. -
-
Re: Seattle Theme Camps
Fri, August 14, 2009 - 1:40 PMOk the clean thing sounded funny since I put it after loving, I like to clean and help out in the kitchen,
